Guangzhou is one of the largest industrial centers in the south of the China, which contains an enormous production of China's light industry. In Guangzhou there are more than hundreds of markets selling various products in bulk, and hundreds of industrial plants and factories.

History of Guangzhou

Guangzhou is considered the southern gate of China, one of the 24 cities in China with a history lasting more than two thousand years. It is remarkable that the "Silk Road", the famous route from China to Asia and Europe, had its start point in Guangzhou. From a local trading port, founded by Han Dynasty more than two thousand years ago, the ships delivered to foreign dealers tons of world valuable goods, like silk, green tea, gunpowder, fireworks, porcelain and spices.

Guangzhou emblem depicts the rams. According to the ancient legend these were rams of five gods, who came into the city. In the mouth of each animal was a bunch of five ears. The legend tells that this symbol indicates wealth and blessings of Guangzhou. Interestingly, Guangzhou is - people's income here is significantly higher in other cities. one of the richest regions of China

Modern Guangzhou

Nowadays Guangzhou is the administrative center of Guangdong Province, a major cultural, industrial and commercial center of China. Guangzhou is located in the south of Continental China, and total area of the city is 7434.4 square kilometers.

In 1949 free economic zone was opened in Guangzhou by the decision of the Chinese Government. This resulted in the rapid development of industry. That exhibitions and trade fairs started to spread, especially for the sake of the possible contacts with Western companies.  People started to call the city "the showcase of China".

Guangzhou is also known worldwide for its International Import-Export Expo, also known as Canton Fair, certainly one of the largest exhibitions in the world. The Canton Fair is a very important event in world of trade and production. It runs twice a year, in April and October.

Climate and weather in Guangzhou

Guangzhou is located in the subtropics, so local climate is humid and warm, not stuffy summers and mild winters. Due to frequent rainfalls in this region you can see a lot of flowers and vegetation in Guangzhou any time of year.

During the rainy season (from July to August) it rains every day, often beginning in evening.

Places of interest in Guangzhou

1. Yuexiu Gongyuan Park is the largest park in Guangzhou, with an area of 920 thousand square meters. Park is full of flowers and trees, and there takes place big Spring Fair and Chrysanthemum exhibition every year in spring and autumn. Inside the park there is also a stadium with a capacity of over 30 thousand spectators. Major attractions are five-ram statue, Zhenhai Tower, Sun Yat-sen Monument and the ancient city wall. Five-ram statue is the symbol of Guangzhou.
2. Ancestral Temple of the Chen Family is one of the brightest representatives of Chinese architects of the nineteenth century. It was built in the 1890th during the reign of the Qing Dynasty, the Temple of Chen family represents the most well-preserved and magnificent temple of Guangdong Province. There we can see combination of traditional Chinese architecture and direction of decorative art, peculiar to the Guangdong Province. At an altitude of 1000 km temple has 19 buildings and 6 beautiful courtyards. Clay, stone and porcelain manufactory and splendid specimens of Chinese art works on silk are also displayed in the temple.
3. Guangzhou Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall is devoted to the Sun Yat-sen, who was a revolutionary and political leader. He overthrew the Chinese dynasty and become the first president of the country.
4. Liuhua Exhibition Center is very popular Guangzhou. The exhibition area of the complex is 120 thousand square meters. Every year large sums of money are invested in Liuhua Exhibition Center to improve and upgrade facilities and equipment. It was built in 1974 and it is located in the heart of the city, what makes him very convenient to visit.
5. Pazhou Exhibition Center is powerful international exhibition center, the largest and most modern in Asia and also the second largest in the world. It was opened in 2002, and its area is about 130 thousand square meters inside and 22 thousand square meters outside. Pazhou Complex has 13 exhibition halls, located on the first and second floors. The size of each room is about 10 thousand square kilometers. Composition of the complex gives a possibility to make several disparate exhibitions simultaneously. With spaciousness exhibition halls, the complex is ideal even forexhibitions of cars, equipment and sailing boats.
6. Guangzhou TV Tower is the tallest TV tower in China. It was constructed in 2005 by ARUP for the 2010 Asian Games.
